BLOOD BREATH & BONES with DAVID KAM

SEASONAL MOVEMENT IMMERSIONS FOR CREATIVE PRACTITIONERS

Blood Breath & Bones is a series of highly experiential workshops for anyone ready to explore movement as a creative practice beyond the confines of a mat. Also particularly relevant to teachers of movement (both health-based or performance-based).

We will return to our body as a source of knowledge, a dwelling in which we study the ongoing dance between movement and thought. With every session, we will consider how the stories which lie within our blood, breath and bones can be explored and embodied through yoga and free-form movement improvisation. Ultimately expanding our capacity to sense and feel from deeper sources.

Weaving together influences of various somatic and artistic practices, this multimodal trilogy is intended as seasonal gifts of time and space to cultivate a lifelong practice of creative enquiry transcending disciplines.

BLOOD (19 Apr)

Blood flows within us like the rivers, circuits and networks we see around us. We will journey through various density and textures to find fluidity in its corresponding effort. Adopting influences from contact improvisation and Bartenieff Fundamentals, we will refine our sense of connectivity within the body to find movement from a place of efficiency and intention.

BREATH (16 Aug)

Breath is what injects life into our body. A sacred cyclical rhythm which we carry with us since birth. Through the influences of choreology (eukinetics) and music, we will embody the different dynamics of movement and breath as punctuated projections of our energy and intention, a means to stretch time in our experience of the everyday.

BONES (1 Nov)

Know your own bone. We will challenge the notion of alignment by testing the masterful architecture of our body against the earthquake of change and (in)stability. A conversation with gravity through the influences of Feldenkrais and Fighting Monkey to build upon the structures of a resilient and responsive body.
